SEVEN suspected rioters were last Thursday arraigned before a Bindura magistrate for obstructing or endangering free movement of persons or traffic during disturbances that rocked Mvurwi.

The seven, Tonderai Samhu (34), Elisha Benjamin (50), Dominic Gide (43), Wonder Zuze (35), Blessing Kamudyariwa (38), Thulani McMillan Ndlovu and Patrice Dandajena (34), all from Mvurwi, were denied bail after the State said they were a flight risk.

Bindura provincial magistrate Mrs Vongai Guwuriro remanded the seven in custody to January 25 for trial.

Prosecutor, Mr Clement Kuwanda told the court that on January 14, the seven circulated a message on the Whatsapp platform inciting people to demonstrate against President Mnangagwa and the Government.

He said on January 15, the accused persons gathered at Mvurwi Community Hall and together with 50 other people began singing revolutionary songs and marched along Independence Way on their way to Mvurwi’s central business district.

Mr Kuwanda said the accused blocked the road intersections using council bins, drainage pipes and stones while burning tyres.
