4 armed robbers raid Mukuru agency

FOUR armed robbers on Friday morning raided a Mukuru Money Transfer agency in Chegutu and got away with US$17 609 and R3 500.

The robbers who were armed with an AK47 rifle and a pistol held the workers hostage, fired shots in the air before looting cash.

Mukuru, which is located inside Zapalala Supermarket was raided around 8am.

Police have since recovered the suspects’ getaway car, a Mercedes Benz (AFA 5892) along Chegutu-Mhondoro Road. The vehicle had been forcibly taken away from someone in Budiriro.

National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said investigations were still in progress.

“The ZRP is investigating a case of armed robbery which occurred at Mukuru Money Transfer, inside Zapalala Supermarket, Chegutu on December 24, 2021 at 0800 hours.

“Four unknown male suspects armed with an unknown pistol and two AK 47 riffles pounced on money transfer workers and fired two shots in the air. They used a hammer to destroy the booth and stole US$17 609 and R3 500,” he said.

In a related incident which occurred on December 23 at 3.45am, police in Ngundu recorded a case where robbers disguising as passengers pounced on a bus belonging to MB Transport bus around 2.30am and robbed the occupants of a total of US$11 520, R566 245 and an Itel P37 cellphone.

The trio boarded the bus in Harare destined for Beitbridge before one of them suddenly fired a shot on the front screen and ordered the driver to stop. They attacked the driver with a wheel spanner and demanded cash and valuables from passengers.

In another case, police have confirmed the arrest of Mfowethu Sibanda (24), Bongani Mlingo (28), Buzani Sithole (18) and Thabane Dlodlo (19) in connection with a murder case which occurred on December 21, 2021 at Simanje line, Tsholotsho.

The victim, Job Maphosa (66) struck Tafadzwa Kasirobi (23) with a machete on the head accusing him of being disrespectful.

This did not go well with the suspects, who are Tafadzwa Kasirobi’s friends and they mobilised themselves to revenge.
