2 armed Chitungwiza robbers remanded in custody As armed robbery cases continue to rise, police and experts continue to encourage people to bank money and desist for keeping large sums at home.

Two Chitungwiza robbers were dragged to court after they allegedly broke into someone’s house and stole property worth US$2 757 and  R1 000 cash.

Patricia Mutedzi and Davison Chinopenga appeared before Magistrate Yeukai Dzudza yesterday and they were remanded in custody to today.

The state represented by Anesu Chirenje alleges that, the Mutedzi and Chinopenga in company of their accomplices who are still at large hatched a plan to rob the complainant’s house in pursuant with their plan, they proceeded to the complainant place whilst armed with iron bars, hammers and a broomstick.

 The accused persons forced the main door open and entered into the bedroom where they threatened the complainant who is a female figure that they would kill her if she did not handover cash to them.

They then started assaulting the complainant with iron bars until she handed a cash box containing cash US$1 775 and R1 000.

Mutedzi and Chinopenga went on to ransack the house and took an HP laptop, 2x Huawei Mate 8 cellphones, aTechno spark 8 cellphone and a small Techno cellphone.

The gang then ordered the complainant and all other house occupants to cover themselves with a blanket and they left the scene.

The stolen Huawei Mate 8 cellphone was later recovered from Chinopenga’s girlfriend and Mutedzi was implicated as the driver of their getaway vehicle.

From the property stolen, only US$80 was recovered.

On another matter, Davison Chinopenga was counted for unlawful possession of explosives and Articles for Criminal Use.

Upon investigations to the robbery matter that has been mentioned above, Detectives from CID Homicide discovered two explosives and a fuse from Chinopenga’s house in Unit D Chitungwiza.

The accused failed to produce permits which allow him to be in possession of these explosives.

Other allegations are, they also recovered two riot police trousers and a green police shirt which Chinopenga failed to give satisfactory answer as to why he was in possession of.
