Harare City Council’s top 19 executives are gobbling US$500 000 in salaries every month while some workers are still to get their November bonuses and salaries.
The highest earner is town clerk Dr Tendai Mahachi who pocketed US$37 642 according to a salaries report dated December 12, 2013 submitted to Kingdom Bank by a city employee Mr Charles Mutongwizo.

City treasurer Mr Misheck Mubvumbi and other directors who include, Mr Cosmas Zvikaramba business development,  housing and community services Mr Justine Chivavaya, urban planning services Mr Psychology Chivanga,   human capital Mr Kainos Chingombe, Harare Water Eng Christopher Zvobgo and engineering services – Eng Philip Pfukwa all pocketed US$36 999.

Chamber Secretary Mrs Josephine Ncube pocketed US$34 299 along with director amenities Mr Dombo Chibanda.

Director health services- administration Dr Prosper Chonzi follows with a salary of US$33 413.

Vusimani Sithole pocketed US$17 252, while director of housing and community services Mr James Chiyangwa took home US$16 100.

Mr Leslie Gwindi who is charge of communications received US$15 204 while council chief accountant Mr Tendai Kwenda and another executive Mr Stewart Mungofa got US$13 542 each.

Another executive Mr Godfrey Kasangaya got US$12 567 while Booker Masasi was paid US$8 200.

Mr Richard Chinengundu was paid US$2 470.

When shown the salary report Harare mayor Mr Bernard Manyenyeni said it looked genuine subject to further verification.

“Indications are that the salary schedule is not a single month payment it must be for November and prior,” he said.

He said he could not comment further saying he would be in a position to make an informed comment today after analysing the figures.

Last month Harare City Council workers demonstrated over unpaid salaries and bonuses and some of them are still to get their dues while residents are receiving shoddy services.
