Police in Kwekwe have arrested 13 robbers who had terrorised businesses in and around Kwekwe and Redcliff. Acting police spokesperson for Midlands Province, Assistant Inspector Ethel Mukwende, confirmed the arrest of the 13-member syndicate based in Kwekwe.

“We have arrested a robbery gang which has the following members Bereto Nyoni ( 42), Blessed Nyathi (44) Osmond Banda (38) , Timothy Ndlovu (38) Fabian Maketo (41) Tinotenda Takawira (25) , Donald Mutandwa (41),Gladson Manjengwa (48), Bruce Mamvura (31), Tinashe Maphosa (20) Accused Tinashe Musindo (20), Tinos Madzivanyika (38) and Knowledge Sibanda( 27.) All these people reside in Kwekwe in the high-density suburb of Mbizo. These men were arrested after being found in possession of stolen material and they confessed to have broken into shops in and around Kwekwe and Redcliff ,” said Assistant Inspector Mukwende.

It is alleged that sometime at the beginning of 2018, the suspects broke into shops in and around Kwekwe and Redcliff Central Business District.

They stole clothing material, a pressure bed, sewing threads and needles. Police in Kwekwe then embarked on an operation code-named “Isigelekeqe singaphi” which led to the arrest of the suspects. The operation targeted wanted persons and ex-convicts.

Police received a tip-off that the first suspect was an ex-convict who operated with four other people who were selling weaves in Simbi Park high-density suburb. They raided the area and recovered the stolen material worth $18 000.
