Air Force of Zimbabwe (AFZ) officers have been urged to carry out their duties diligently and use their experience to positively represent the organisation and the nation.

Addressing eight newly promoted Group Captains at the AFZ Headquarters in Harare yesterday, Air Marshal Elson Moyo urged the promoted officers to continue working hard in their new positions and setting a good example to their subordinates and the command element.

Two of the promoted Group Captains were conferred with the ranks in absentia.

The Wing Commanders were promoted to the rank of Group Captains by President Mnangagwa with effect from February 15.

“First of all, let me congratulate the newly promoted Group Captains,” said Air Marshal Moyo.

“However, these promotions come with high expectations from your subordinates and the command element.

“This was not just a mere routine promotion, but a promotion mainly for the fulfilment of strategic positions in the organisation.”

Air Marshal Moyo said the promotions were beneficial to both the organisation and the nation.

“Some of you have been Wing Commanders for more than 14 years and that is enough experience,” he said. “You are now assuming greater responsibilities and the way you interact must represent the organisation in a positive way.”

The newly promoted officers are Wing Commanders Cleopas Kapondoro, Peacemaker Credo Kereke, Charles Murongazvombo, Peter Manyere, Givemore Tavesure, Ezweni Masuku, Upenyu Chitauro and Partson Nyamudya-              Two of the Wing Commanders who were promoted in absentia are Robert Kaseke, who is deployed in Iran, and Wishman Mirashe, who is a defence attaché in Nigeria.

Speaking at the same occasion, newly promoted 0fficers, Captain Givemore Tavesure, pledged to work hard and commended the command element for recognising their contribution in the organisation.

“We will not waver in carrying out our new responsibilities,” he said.

“We will continue to work hard and carry on our duties. We will set a good example to our subordinates and our superiors so that they may realise that our promotion was worth it.”
