The Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) has commended First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa for her charity work in various disadvantaged communities across the country.

In her philanthropic work, the First Lady has assisted vulnerable groups that include, the elderly, disabled, children and women.

Remote parts of the country have not been left behind as she has reached all corners of the country in a bid to give a helping hand to those in need.

To complement her efforts, the ZTA on Thursday handed over blankets to Amai Mnangagwa for onward distribution to the needy through her Angel of Hope Foundation.

The donation comes at a time when the country is experiencing cold weather hence the blankets will go a long way in warming up the beneficiaries.

Handing over the donation, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Environment, Tourism and Hospitality Industry Munesu Munodawafa said extensive work being done by Angel of Hope Foundation countrywide to ease the plight of vulnerable communities captured their attention prompting them to come on board.

“Amai led the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority and the Ministry of Environment, Climate, Tourism and Hospitality Industry throughout the country promoting the consumption of traditional foods and through a cooking competition.

“As we were going around, we realised that in-between the programmes, the First Lady in almost every province would take time to visit homes looking after the elderly, disabled and orphans among other disadvantaged groups. As ZTA, we realised that it was important that we support her in her philanthropic work.

“We then decided to come up with this donation to Angel of Hope Foundation through her thus contributing to her hard work.

“We were touched when we saw her helping a lot of people. We want to say thank you and keep up the good work Amai,” he said.

ZTA acting chief executive, Mr Givemore Chidzidzi praised the First Lady for her extremely good works which showed she was touching many hearts.

He pledged his parastatal’s continued support towards the First Lady’s philanthropic works.

“We are excited to be associated with the Angel of Hope Foundation whose patron is the First Lady who is so hardworking. The charity work that Amai is doing across the country has touched our hearts and as ZTA we thought of leading by example and support the efforts she is making towards alleviating the plight of the underprivileged members of the society,” he said.

Mr Chidzidzi implored parastatals and corporates to consider donating to the First Lady’s noble initiatives that are transforming lives of many needy people in Zimbabwe.

“Winter is still upon and this donation is a befitting present to give to our mother for onward distribution to the needy as she continues with her work.

“The First Lady is on record saying nothing is too little to Angel of Hope Foundation hence I would like to urge other parastatals and corporates to come on board and support the mother of the nation.

“Whatever donation, it would make a difference in someone’s life. As a tourism sector, we will continue working with the Angel of Hope Foundation,” Mr Chidzidzi said.

In accepting the donation, the First Lady said Angel of Hope Foundation will achieve its objectives through such support and helping hands as shown by ZTA.

She urged those with means to support disadvantaged people in society saying their contributions will be greatly appreciated.

“To you the ZTA, I am happy that you emulate my work and that I sow seeds of love and giving in you through my work that I am doing throughout the country.

“I am therefore, grateful and proud to receive a donation of blankets from you. Ndinotenda zvikuru uye ndinoti kune vane chero chavainacho huyai nacho nekuti kwandiri there is nothing that is big or small because every donation will make a difference to someone’s life,” she said.

This valuable donation, the First Lady said, will go a long way in helping the aged, the disabled, the children, women, youths and the sick from the harsh winter, bearing in mind that the country is still experiencing the cold weather.

“The support you have given me today and us as Angel of Hope Foundation does enhance our capability as a foundation. Our mission as Angel of Hope Foundation is to support the vulnerable in society through providing access to healthcare, social services, education and economic empowerment initiatives with particular emphasis on women, youth and children.

“We have also extended our hand to all those vulnerable groups in need of assistance.

“With the received donation, our vision will be put forward in alleviating our fellow Zimbabweans. On behalf of the foundation, and in my capacity as the patron, I would like to thank you for the donation. You have come at the right time,” she said.
