The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Hurungwe district has received three motorbikes and six bicycles to facilitate ease of mobility of its members during the discharge of police duties.

The donations were made by tobacco firms, Voedsel and Aqua, as well as Mr Trymore Mpaya and Mr Owen Chipangura.

Speaking during a handover ceremony held in Hurungwe, Assistant Commissioner Martin Nyirenda applauded the kind gesture by the companies and individuals in capacitating the police in fighting crime.

“The donations are a testimony of the good relations between the police and stakeholders. They will go a long way in improving service delivery in the district, both rural and urban areas.

“Our partners have shown confidence and trust in the police in fighting crime,” said Ass Comm Nyirenda.

Hurungwe district police commander, Chief Superintendent Helena Mahonde lamented lack of resources, saying the ZRP only had one vehicle to service the large area of jurisdiction that has five operational police stations.

The area incorporates Magunje and Tengwe.

She said the donation of motorbikes and bicycles would go a long way in curbing criminal activities.

Also present at the event was ZRP Mashonaland West crime consultative committee chairman, Mr Richard Chafausipo, Aqua Tobacco managing director Mr Chris Taziva, Business Against Crime Forum of Zimbabwe (BACFOZ) members and traditional leaders.
