ZPC Kariba recorded two victories on the bounce for the first time this season after surviving a late scare in a Castle Lager Premiership tie at Ascot yesterday. Coach Godfrey Tamirepi’s future has been subject of speculation this season, but yesterday’s victory is sure to give him relief as he prepares for the final two games in the first half of the campaign.

The visitors produced a first half to savour by scoring three goals without response, making the most of the absence of host first choice goalkeeper Talbert Shumba.

Pride Tafirenyika opened the scoreboard after 26 minutes and three minutes later, Talent Chamboko added another.
Dexter Phiri scored the third in the 34th minute. After the breather, the visitors survived a late surge from the airmen.

Edmore Muzanenhamo initiated the comeback with a powerful shot ten minutes from time.
Allen Tavarwisa converted a penalty in time added on to ensure a nervy finish.

Last week, reports suggested that Chapungu gaffer, Rodwell Dhlakama, was set to leave the soldiers to join basement side Mutare City Rovers.

But Dhlakama dismissed the speculation.
“We did not come to the party, especially in the first half, we were not in the game, but in the second half we managed to rectify some of the problems and play the way we normally play.

“I am not going to Mutare City, I am the coach at Chapungu and I have a running contract and those are just rumours and as coaches we expect those rumours,” said Dhlakama.
Tamirepi said they deserved their win.

“We had a very good first half evidenced by the scoreline and when we came in the second half we were a bit sluggish, allowing Chapungu to come back into the game.

“We came in the match with so much hunger and we made our intentions very clear in the first half and we were in control in the first half.

“It is a boost because we have improved on the log standing and we will build on the confidence after the win against Bulawayo City last week,” said Tamirepi.
