the Zimbabwe Olympic Committee (ZOC), in partnership with the Norwegian Olympic and Paralympics Committee and Confederation of Sports, are hosting a Coaches’ Strength Training, Conditioning And Injury Prevention workshop here.

The workshop will be held from September 8 to 9 at a local hotel. The courses will be conducted by lecturers from America Council of Exercise Kudzai Muzorewa and Philip Jeans.

ZOC chief executive Anna Mguni confirmed the developments. She said the training sessions will be conducted by lecturers with the America Council of Exercise.

“As ZOC, in partnership with Norwegian Olympic and Paralympics Committee and Confederation of Sports, we will be in Mutare on September 8-9.
“We will be conducting a Coaches’ Strength Training, Conditioning and Injury Prevention workshop.

“We have lecturers who are also experts in sport science, strength and conditioning, Kudzai Muzorewa and Philip Jeans. The two are lecturers with the American Council of Excises.

“The initial workshop was first held in Harare in December last year and the second was held in May this in Bulawayo.
“Strength and conditioning coaches help athletes to improve their fitness. In our local environment, where resources are scarce, it is difficult for sport clubs to engage experts that solely focus on this critical aspect,” she said.

Mguni added that the training of coaches will help improve athletes’ performance and skill.
“The one-and-a-half day workshop will be delivered through theory and practical sessions, focusing on aspects such as resistance exercises, testing and monitoring, recovery and injury prevention.

“Certificates of participation will be presented to the participants and only upon 100% attendance and 30 coaches working with elite athletes have been targeted from sport associations, secondary and tertiary institutions as well as clubs.

“At the end of the workshop it is anticipated that an improvement will be noted in coaching techniques” she said.
