ZNA warns public of fake recruitment agents

The Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) is warning the public of bogus people posing as the organisation’s recruitment agents, who dupe prospective recruits of their hard earned cash.

Presently, many such bogus agents have taken advantage of the ZNA’s ongoing recruitment drive and are fleecing people of their money.

In a statement on Tuesday, ZNA Director, Army Public Relations, Colonel Alphios Makotore, advised job seekers to be wary of criminal elements soliciting for payments in return for recruitment into the army.

Col Makotore advised the public to adhere to the ZNA recruiting advertisements being flighted on accredited media not on social media platforms.

“The Zimbabwe National Army is warning members of the public not to be defrauded by bogus people posing as ZNA recruitment agents,” he said. “These bogus people dupe potential recruits of their hard earned money on the promise of securing employment for them with the ZNA.

“All potential recruits, parents and guardians are urged to strictly follow instructions as given in the ZNA recruitment advertisements which are being published in the mainstream media. Potential recruits must not follow adverts on social media platforms. It is hereby emphasised that the ZNA does not engage any recruitment agents to recruit on its behalf.”

Col Makotore said the army was concerned about numerous complaints from victims who were recently defrauded following the ongoing recruitment exercise. He warned offenders that the law would take its course.

“The ZNA continues to receive complaints from the public after falling victim to fraudulent activities by these bogus agents,” said Col Makotore.

“Our recruitment teams have always educated and alerted the public not to get involved with these bogus recruitment agents, but it appears more and more potential recruits are falling prey because they do not listen to our advice.”

Col Makotore said in March this year, individuals like Langton Munhundagwa extorted various amounts of money from potential recruits in Zhombe masquerading as a ZNA member and people became victims of his tricks.

He urged members of the public to report such misdemeanours.

“Should anyone come across any suspicious characters masquerading as Army recruitment agents, they must immediately phone on the following Military Police hotline numbers: 0712842318, 0772258410,” said Col Makotore. “They must also report to the nearest Zimbabwe Republic Police stations or any nearest military camp.”
