Zibagwe Rural District Council (ZRDC) has embarked on a road rehabilitation project after receiving $1,5 million from the Zimbabwe National Road Administration (Zinara).

The RDC chairperson Councillor Chamunogwa Zvishamira said several roads in Zhombe and Silobela has been refilled with new gravel as work to rehabilitate the roads was underway.

Clr Zvishamira said they were also targeting the Gobo-Mkobogwa Highway in Silobela and the one that links Zhombe and Empress near Kadoma.

He said some of the roads were now in very bad state and some areas were no longer accessible.
“The rehabilitation of roads programme is underway and we have hired the services of locals who are providing manual labour,” he said.

Clr Zvishamira said the programme has so far covered over 30km.
He said Gobo-Mkobogwa road in Silobela, which links the Silobela community with Exchange Irrigation Scheme, was a priority.

“It is an important link road because beneficiaries under the scheme need to take their produce either to Kwekwe or Kadoma so the road must be in good shape,” he said.
He said work was being disturbed by incessant rains in the area.
