The country’s leading multi-media company, Zimpapers 1980 Limited, yesterday scooped the best Zimbabwe packaging, plastics, stationery, publishing and printing sector award. The National University of Science and Technology (NUST) also won the 2015 Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) supreme Zimbabwean exhibition display award.

Zimpapers group publishes The Herald, Chronicle, The Sunday Mail, Sunday News, The Manica Post, B-Metro, H-Metro, Kwayedza, Umthunywa, Southern Times and Zimtravel. It also runs Star FM radio station and several digital platforms that disseminate news and classifieds online.

Zimpapers Bulawayo branch marketing and advertising manager Mr Kenny Zihumo said Zimpapers leads the pack in the media industry. “We’re the leading integrated media house in terms of being the largest company, which is into printing, packaging, broadcasting and publishing.

“As a company, we’ve moved to digital because the world is going digital. We offer mobile news, news hub as well as Zimpapers online classifieds,” said Mr Zihumo. He said Zimpapers had the biggest circulation and readership countrywide.

“In terms of readership, we’re proud to say that we command the largest readership in the country. We’re always giving readers and advertisers value for money as well as generate revenue streams via digital platform,” he said.

Courier Connect and Zim Copiers came second and third to Zimpapers, respectively. For its outstanding work, Nust went away with the President’s award and the ZITF gold medal. The designer of the university’s stand, Professor John Knight, was presented with a ZITF gold medal.

The university also scooped the best education and training award, beating the University of Zimbabwe and the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development.

The Bulawayo City Council landed the second runner-up in the supreme Zimbabwe exhibitor with TelOne settling for third rank. The landline telephone service provider also scooped best prize in the Information Communication Technology category. The best and most outstanding foreign display went to the South African Department of Trade and Industry, which received a ZITF trophy and gold medal.

Their stands were designed by Expo Guys, who also got a gold medal. The SA department won the same award last year.

The second runner-up was Hose Manufacturers from South Africa, followed by Food Reserve Agency from Zambia.

In other categories, the National Railways of Zimbabwe walked away with the best display in tourism and travel, while Premier Service Medical Aid Society (PSMAS) scooped the best display in medical aid and health-related issues.

For the best Zimbabwean exhibit in the food group, Alpha and Omega Dairy co-shared the top prize with Schweppes Zimbabwe, while Dairibord Holdings and Cairns Holding walked away with second and third prizes, respectively.

Home of Zanu-PF, which made its debut showcase at ZITF, scooped the ZITF trophy and gold medal award in the first time exhibitors’ category.

The Ministry of Women Affairs, Gender and Community Development won the best craft exhibit display award, beating the Ministry of Youth, Indigenisation and Economic Empowerment and Lupane Women’s Centre.

Sibongile Hlongwane scooped the most outstanding producer in the small-scale farmer category.

The guest of honour and Zambian President, Edgar Lungu, presented the prizes to the winners in the presence of President Mugabe, Cabinet ministers and the large gathering that witnessed the official opening.
