Zimpapers chief executive bags award Mr Pikirai Deketeke

Zimpapers chief executive Mr Pikirayi Deketeke will be among key and influential people who will be honoured tonight at the Zimbabwe Community News (ZCN) Awards.

The awards, which seek to honour organisations and personalities that are making a positive impact in communities locally and abroad will be held at the Harare International Conference Centre.

The prestigious event is expected to be officiated by Information Publicity and Broadcasting Services Publicity Deputy Minister Kindness Paradza.

ZCN publishing editor Mr Albert Masaka said:

“We are growing bigger each year and this year we introduced some new categories that include editors under the media category and we have also introduced stakeholders’ choice awards.”

He said special categories would be in the philanthropy, education, health, sports, music, journalism and the arts sector.

Among the veteran, editors to be honoured are the Zimpapers chief executive Mr Pikirayi Deketeke, Ms Faith Zaba from Zimbabwe Independent, and Mr Guthrie Munyuki from Daily News.

A number of journalists and media stations are also set to be honoured on the day.

Under the Arts section, several artistes are set to receive awards for their outstanding work in the community.

Some of them include musicians Charles and Olivia Charamba, Reverend Togarepi Chivaviro, Nutty O, Jays Marabini, Bekezea Mguni, Michael and Amos Mahendere, Janet Manyowa, Romeo Gasa and Daisy Mukariri.

Legendary footballer Peter Ndlovu who is now based in South Africa with Mamelodi Sundowns is expected to attend the event together with his brother Madinda Ndlovu.

Mr Masaka said personalities to be awarded include those outstanding under the categories of the vulnerable, tourism, business, vulnerable people, poem and authors, gender education, philanthropy, promoters, service delivery, peacebuilding and church leaders.

Mr Masaka said members of the public are welcome to attend the event at a stipulated price and tickets will be available at the venue.
