Civic society, faith leaders, students and youths have launched the Zimbabwe Palestine Solidarity Council (ZPSC) which will campaign for the restoration of human rights and social justice for the Palestinian people.

The council is made up of representatives from Zimbabwe Movement for Pan African socialists, Zimbabwe Institute of Diplomacy, African Diplomacy for Palestine, Broad Alliance Against Sanctions, Zimbabwe Anti-Sanctions Trust and the Apostolic Bishop Network.

Shoulder to Shoulder with Palestine, Young Global Leaders network, Esteem Communications and Music for Development Foundation are also some of the members of the ZPSC.

The council will be used as a platform to support and promote the legitimate rights of the Palestine people, build solidarity and mutual understanding between the people of Zimbabwe and the Palestinian people.

The council is also expected to raise awareness in Zimbabwe of Israel’s occupation of Palestinian land, the plight of Palestinian refugees and the struggle of Palestinian citizens for full equality and rights.

ZPSC national chairman, Cde Mafa Kwanisai Mafa said the council will also be responsible for promoting engagement with the Zimbabwean Government, the political institution in Zimbabwe for a just settlement based on the full implementation of the international law.

“We will also promote Palestinian culture, including literature, music and other arts in Zimbabwe to carry out campaigns and other educational activities.

“Israel must abandon its plans for occupation and siege of Gaza. We call upon for the accomplishment of peace, equality and dignity of the Palestinian people,” he said.

Palestinian Ambassador, Tamer Almassari said he was proud of the support Palestine was getting from Zimbabweans.

“Palestinian people are struggling against one of the worst and the last occupations in the world which is the Israel apartheid regime. We want to say that with your support and solidarity Palestinian people can also achieve self-determination and together we can end the Israeli apartheid occupation and colonialism,” he said.
