Twenty-four chefs who graduated from a local tourism and hospitality school, the SAHTC The Hospitality School have all secured jobs at the US tourist resorts of Broadmoor in Colorado and the Luxurious Montage Deer Valley Resort in Salt Lake City, Utah.

The Zimbabwe Tourism Authority said the swift recruitment of the locally-trained chefs is an endorsement of the country’s tourism and hospitality industry following a Covid-19-induced slump.

The chefs, who studied for the Chefs on Stage Culinary Arts Management diploma, left the country today.

ZTA director International Marketing Mr Ronald Kutukwa said:

“The Zimbabwe Tourism Authority is excited about Zimbabwe-trained chefs who have been able to break into the international hospitality industry.

“We are proud that they are going to raise the flag of Zimbabwe high and we are aware that there are a lot of countries in the world with a number of Zimbabweans working in different fields.”

He said the acceptance of Zimbabweans at the USA resorts was a sign that the local tourism and hospitality industry had the potential to surpass current levels following the Covid-19 pandemic which reduced tourism activities.

SAHTC director Mr Michael Ferrell said over the years, the hospitality school had enrolled scores of trainees and has also established strong liaisons with some of the leading tourism and hospitality industry global players.

“As a training school, we are proud to have made a positive impact on Zimbabwe’s education and ensuring that the trainees who study with us also proceed to get employment or to run their own establishments.”
