Zim to host AUSC Region 5 meetings

ZIMBABWE are set to host the forthcoming African Union Sports Council Region 5 meetings this month as the region continues to channel efforts towards sport development.
The meetings are set to be held under the auspices of the Ministry of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture and are scheduled to take place from November 5-15 in Harare.
In a statement released by the Ministry of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture, the meetings will bring together various stakeholders including Sports Ministers from the Region.
“Zimbabwe is proud to announce its role as the host nation for the upcoming African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region 5 Meetings, set to be held under the auspices of the Ministry of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture.
“This prestigious event, gathering key stakeholders from across Southern Africa, will focus on enhancing collaboration and strategising for the advancement of sports, recreation, and cultural initiatives within the region.
“The AUSC Region 5 meetings will bring together sports ministers, policy-makers, sporting federations, and representatives from the 10 member states: Angola, Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
“Scheduled to take place in Harare from 5 to 15 November 2024, the meetings will address various key issues, including sports development, regional cooperation, and creating sustainable programmes that promote unity and excellence through sports,” reads part of the statement.
Some of the highlights of the meetings include strategic planning sessions: focused discussions on policy, governance, sport development for enhanced regional sports collaboration.
The event will include the silver jubilee museum launch and awards are set to be presented, celebrating AUSC’s achievements and dedication to sports development in Africa over the past 25 years and celebrating the Regional Museum to be set up in Zimbabwe, a huge recognition and honour.
A cultural festival aimed at exploring ways to integrate arts and culture into the sports framework, promoting cultural exchange and unity is also among the highlights of the meetings.

The African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region 5 is an essential body for promoting sports, arts, and cultural development within Southern Africa.
By bringing together policymakers and stakeholders from across the region, AUSC Region 5 strives to foster unity, development, and positive change in sports and recreation.
