THE Zimbabwe Korfball Federation have enlisted the services of Netherlands expert Corrine Buckland to assist head coach Percyledge Samugadza in the forthcoming World Cup qualifiers pencilled for Chitungwiza from April 27-29. Korfball is a ball sport with similarities to netball and basketball. It is played by two teams of eight players with four females and four males in each team or with eight females in each team. The objective is to throw a ball through a bottomless basket that is mounted on a 3.5-metre high pole.

And one African country between Zimbabwe, Zambia and Malawi will join South Africa who have already qualified by virtue of being the hosts for the July World Cup tournament.

Ivory Coast and Cameroon were supposed to take part in the qualifiers but the latter have since withdrawn while the former are still to confirm.

The scenario gives Zimbabwe a slight advantage as they stand a good chance of qualifying for the first time for the biannual fiesta.

And it is the addition of Buckland in the technical team that has the whole country believing their team will finally make it.
Kudzionera Madoda also comes in with a wealth of experience in the technical set-up. He is the assistant general manager (technical) in the local organising committee.

The qualifying competition will be spiced-up by South Africa who will make a guest appearance.
They have already qualified by virtue of being the hosts but the World Cup holders are expected to give whoever qualifies a glimpse of what to expect in the July event.

Samugadza, who in 2015 guided the Under-23 team through to the World Cup but could not make the journey to the Czech Republic where it was held due to some financial constraints, is upbeat his charges will negotiate their way past the African lot.
Samugadza has since trimmed his squad to 16 players, eight boys and as many girls.
