Zifa mourns Rushwaya Simba Rushwaya

The Zimbabwe Football Association (Zifa) has expressed sadness at the passing on of Simba Rushwaya, a veteran sports journalist and former secretary-general of the Sports Writers’ Association of Zimbabwe.
His death sent shockwaves through the sports fraternity, with tributes pouring in from across the country.

“Rushwaya was not only a professional of the highest calibre but also a highly respected figure across various media houses,” said Zifa in a statement released today.

“His dedication to sports journalism was unparalleled, and his distinguished career stands as a testament to his passion and commitment to the field.

“Rushwaya’s leadership and vision played a significant role in shaping sports journalism in Zimbabwe. As secretary-general of the Sports Writers’ Association of Zimbabwe (SWAZ), he worked tirelessly to promote and develop the industry.

“His contributions will be deeply missed, but his legacy will live on. His loss is not only a personal one to those who knew him but also a significant one for the entire industry.”

Journalists under the Zimbabwe Union of Journalists (ZUJ) are also mourning the death of Rushwaya who succumbed to colon cancer at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals yesterday.

“Rushwaya’s passing has left a void in the sports journalism landscape, but his impact will continue to be felt,” reads a statement from ZUJ.

“His commitment to telling the stories of Zimbabwean sports heroes inspired a generation of journalists. His legacy will continue to inspire and motivate others to follow in his footsteps.

“As the sports fraternity mourns the loss of a true giant, they also celebrate his life and achievements. Rushwaya may be gone, but his memory and contributions to sports journalism will never be forgotten.”
