A 20-year-old man from Zhombe has been arrested for fatally striking a fellow villager with a brick on the head at the height of a fight.
Midlands provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said the dispute began when the now deceased Khokwani Sibanda (34) accused Brighton Moyo (20) of harassing a local girl.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms the arrest of a 20-year-old man for murder after he allegedly struck a local villager with a brick on the head,” he said.
“The matter occurred on November 8 at around 11 am at Chapera Business Centre under Chief Malisa in Zhombe.”
Inspector Mahoko said Sibanda approached Moyo at Chapera and accused him of harassing a local girl.
“Moyo is said to have apologised to Sibanda over the issue. Sibanda went home and later returned armed with an axe and a knobkerrie. He found Moyo at the Mphitshike homestead which is close to the business centre,” said Inspector Mahoko.
Sibanda allegedly assaulted Moyo with the knobkerrie all over his body. Moyo tried to run away, with Sibanda in hot pursuit.
“Moyo picked a brick and struck Sibanda on the head. Sibanda fell down and died,” said Inspector Mahoko.
“The police attended the scene and picked up Moyo who is now assisting us with investigations.”
