The Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) is suing the Zimbabwe National Water Authority (ZINWA) at the High Court for close to $2 million of unpaid electricity bills.

ZETDC is seeking a High Court order compelling ZINWA to pay $1 989 086, 61 plus interest at the prescribed rate calculated from the date of issue of summons to date of full payment.

The power utility also wants costs of suit on a legal practitioner-client rate.

“The plaintiff claims payment of $1 989 086,61 owed by defendant as at August 31 this year, being charges in respect of electricity supplied by the plaintiff at the defendant’s special request,” read the summons.

“The debt is also in terms of the running electricity supply contract between the parties and which amount the defendant fails, neglects or refuses to pay despite                   demand.”

ZETDC added that because of the failure, neglect or refusal to pay the debt, ZINWA is obliged to pay the same with interest at the prescribed rate which is currently five percent per annum.
