Zanu-PF members have been urged to take advantage of the three-week window afforded by the Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) mop-up exercise after it emerged that some party members mistook the issuance of electronic party cards with voter registration.

It is believed that there were some party members who mistakenly believed that electronic party cards issued by the party automatically meant registration under the BVR programme.

Politiburo member and Principal of Chitepo School of ideology Cde Munyaradzi Machacha said the anomaly was prevalent in Mashonaland West, Mashonaland East and Mashonaland Central.

“Our priority as a party and its various structures is that in the remaining three weeks of the ZEC voter registration mop-up exercise, we mobilise resources to ensure our supporters are registered,” he said.

“Information we are getting is that in Mashonaland West, Central, East and Harare, some of our people declined to register, saying they had already been registered by ZEC.

“Upon probing, they would produce a Zanu-PF electronic card.” The party, Cde Machacha said, should move to see that all those who got party electronic cards are registered.

According to information released by the ZEC last Friday, Mashonaland West province had registered about 531 000 people. Zanu-PF targets to register at least five million party supporters, which would guarantee a resounding victory in the harmonised elections expected later this year.
