Zanu-PF mourns heroine Mathuthu Cde Khaya Moyo

ZANU-PF has extended its condolences to the Mathuthu family following the death of Politburo member and former Matabeleland North Governor Cde Thokozile Angela Mathuthu on Monday. In a statement yesterday, Zanu-PF spokesman Cde Ambassador Simon Khaya Moyo said the party was greatly saddened by Cde Mathuthu’s death.

“The revolutionary party Zanu-PF has learnt with sadness of the demise of its dependable stalwart, Cde Thokozile Mathuthu after fighting some ailment with exceptional courage,” he said.

“Her declaration as a national heroine by the party’s President and First Secretary Cde E.D Mnangagwa, after a unanimous decision by the Politburo, speaks volumes of her liberation history, courage, perseverance, commitment, humility, hard work and enviable determination to the promotion of unity, peace and development.”

Cde Khaya Moyo described Cde Mathuthu as a gallant daughter of the soil.
“She was a total person, humorous and a selfless servant of the people. She has left a legacy of service to humanity and indeed has been promoted to glory for higher responsibility.

“In wishing her dear husband and family strength and staying power, may her soul anchor and rest in eternal peace.
“Go well daughter of the soil,” he said.

Zanu-PF Women’s League said it was shocked by the death of Cde Mathuthu.
“The Zanu-PF secretary for Women Affairs, Honourable, Comrade Mabel Memory Chinomona, the Women’s League Top Ten Management Committee, the National Executive of the Women’s League and the entire membership of the Zanu-PF Women’s League countrywide, express their deepest condolences to the Mathuthu and Gumbo families, the people of Matabeleland North and the nation as a whole, on the passing on of Comrade Thokozile Angela Mathuthu,” said Cde Chinomona.

“Indeed, the Women’s League was shocked and deeply saddened by the news of the untimely death of a dear colleague and compatriot at a time when we needed her most to rebuild Zimbabwe under the new dispensation.”
Cde Chinomona described Cde Mathuthu as a hard-working and dedicated cadre.

“Cde Mathuthu was a hard-working and dedicated cadre who played a pivotal role during and after the War of Liberation.
“She dedicated her entire life and gave her all for the political and socio-economic development of Zimbabwe before and after the attainment of Zimbabwe’s independence.

“She was one such a woman who would not compromise on principles. Her selflessness and dedication to duty even manifested at a time when her health was failing. She would not miss a single day at the office,” she said.
Cde Chinomona also described Cde Mathuthu as reliable, supportive and irreplaceable.

“To the Women’s League, she was our pillar of strength, a source of inspiration, a reservoir of knowledge, experienced and adviser par excellence, who worked tirelessly in support of women’s issues. The Women’s League will never be the same without her,” she said.

“She will forever be remembered and sadly missed by all progressive Zimbabweans. May her dear soul rest in eternal peace.”
Cde Mathuthu died on Monday at her Belvedere home in Harare.
She was 61.

Cde Mathuthu was the deputy secretary of the Women’s League at the time of her death.
She is survived by her husband Jonathan and four children.

Cde Mathuthu has since been declared a national heroine and will be buried at the National Heroes Acre on Sunday.
