Zanu-PF hails First Lady’s cancer awareness campaign First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa

ZANU-PF Midlands Province has hailed First Lady Auxilia Mnangagwa for her role in nationwide cancer awareness campaigns, which have seen thousands of women undergoing cervical cancer screening for free.

In an interview yesterday, Zanu-PF Midlands Provincial Chairperson Cde Daniel Mackenzie Ncube said the First Lady’s cancer awareness campaign was already bearing fruit as a significant number of women and men had been flooding hospitals for cervical and colon cancer screening. He could not give the exact figure of people who had been screened as of yesterday, saying it was work in progress.

“The First Lady’s Cancer awareness campaign is a good initiative that is bearing fruit. Most women and men in the Midlands Province are heeding her call to be screened for cancer.

This is a good start in the fight against cancer,” said Cde Ncube. “I would like to applaud our mother for this huge task that she has taken. She is championing the fight against the pandemic and the results are already showing.

We are so grateful for her motherly spirit to help Zimbabwe fight this disease and we hope that she will soon cover remote areas in Gokwe, Mberengwa and Zvishavane.” Midlands Provincial Affairs Minister Cde Owen Ncube commended the First Lady for showing leadership in the fight against cancer.

“The move by the First Lady is commendable as cancer is one of the major killer diseases in the world. We welcome her nationwide campaign with open hands and we are optimistic that it will bring in a lot of changes in as far as cancer is concerned,” said Cde Ncube.

According to the Ministry of Health and Child Care, over 8 500 women have been screened for cervical cancer nationwide since the First Lady partnered with the ministry in the fight against cancer.
