Zanu-PF has dismissed claims by MDC-Alliance that the ruling party is interfering with the latter’s congress preparations.
In a statement yesterday, the revolutionary party’s secretary for Information and Publicity Cde Simon Khaya Moyo said the allegations were unfounded.

“The continued hallucinatory claims by some MDC-Alliance leadership that the revolutionary Zanu-PF Party is interfering with their forthcoming congress preparations, without mentioning how, is not only unfounded, but extremely nauseating,” he said.

“Such claims clothed in threats of countrywide demonstrations by the said party, against an elected Government in view of economic challenges facing the nation, clearly smell of a regime change agenda. I must restate that the court ruling by Justice Edith Mushore ordering the MDC party to hold an extraordinary congress within a month to elect substantive leadership, using the 2014 MDC structures is purely a matter between the MDC and the courts.”

Cde Khaya Moyo added that Zanu-PF was a principled party and was preoccupied with dealing with the country’s economy.
“It has absolutely nothing to do with Zanu-PF and its visionary leader Cde Mnangagwa as insinuated by Mr Jacob Mafume, MDC spokesperson. It is clear from the papers in the courts that the applicant was an MDC member,” Cde Khaya Moyo said.

“Zanu-PF is a too principled party with a revolutionary history to engage MDC shenanigans. President Mnangagwa is too preoccupied with matters of the economy as evidenced by the ‘Zimbabwe is open for business’ mantra and Vision 2030. The MDC party has gone public to state that the party is facing serious financial challenges to hold a meaningful congress. Surely, Zanu-PF cannot be blamed for their state of affairs.”
