Zanu-PF youths in Masvingo are optimistic President Mnangagwa’s investor-friendly approach will end two decades of unemployment and poverty. They said President Mnangagwa’s leadership was likely to facilitate the development of 25 000 hectares of irrigation around Tokwe-Mukosi Dam in Chivi South.

It is believed that the take-off of the Beitbridge-Chirundu Highway dualisation project will also assure youths of multiple job opportunities. Zanu-PF provincial secretary for economic affairs Cde Phillip Chieza yesterday said they believed President Mnangagwa will expeditiously attend to the two key projects.

“As youths from Masvingo, we are very much delighted with the message which our President, Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa, emphasised in his inauguration speech that issues of job creation and economic recovery have to be attended to with speed, especially after a very long journey in which youths witnessed empty promises and a lot disappointments,” he said. Cde Chieza expressed hope that President Mnangagwa will quickly look into the development of land earmarked for irrigation at Tokwe-Mukosi.

“With the high levels of unemployment in Zimbabwe, youths anticipate the President, who proved his unquestionable love for the agriculture sector by his idea for the Command Agriculture programme, that the development of 25 000ha of irrigable land around Tokwe-Mukosi Dam just requires his command for the project to kick- start,” he said.

“We have various ventures there. Others can get into construction of hotels, while others could establish game reserves in moves that would create more job opportunities while ushering in economic recovery.” Youths are hopeful that the dualisation of the Beitbridge-Chirundu Highway will most likely have a positive impact on job creation.

“The youths have waited and are still waiting to take every opportunity which comes their way,” said Cde Chieza.
“Some are prepared to work, while others are prepared to supply materials for the project. It is our humble appeal to President Mnangagwa that once these projects are in motion, Masvingo will be transformed into an economic hub where hunger would be a thing of the past, while youths would exhibit their talents, which have been suppressed for some time now.” Former President Robert Mugabe commissioned the Tokwe-Mukosi Dam and the Masvingo-Beitbridge Highway project early this year.
