Zanu-PF Youth League members in Mashonaland West province have commended Government under the New Dispensation led by President Mnangagwa for heeding their call to be included in key political and Government positions.

This comes as youths in the province also unanimously endorsed President Mnangagwa as their preferred Zanu-PF party candidate for the 2023 harmonised elections ahead of the party’s annual people’s conference in Esigodini next week.

Speaking at the Mashonaland West provincial youth inter-district conference in Chinhoyi last week, guest of honour and national Youth League executive member Cde Edmore Kandira said the New Dispensation had shown affinity to their concerns.

“The most important resolution to come out of this meeting was the unanimous endorsement of President Mnangagwa’s candidature in 2023,” he said, amid applause from the floor.

“We have been in Zanu-PF since childhood but we have seen that we have a President who listens to the youths and the people in general.

“Through our leadership we called for the inclusion of youths in leadership positions in Government and the party.

“The President embraced that and we now have more representation as youths.”

The youths, he said, were presently surprised by the appointment of their colleagues as ministers and deputies.

President Mnangagwa appointed Ministers Simangaliso Ndlovu (Industry and Commerce) and Mary Mliswa-Chikoka (Minister of State for Provincial Affairs in Mashonaland West).

Deputy ministers include Cdes Vangelis Haritatos (Lands, Agriculture, Water, Climate and Rural Resettlement), Jerifanos Muswere (ICT and Cyber Security) and Yeukai Simbanegavi (Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation).

Youths, he said, should defend the party and Government policies while using the proper channels to highlight areas of consternation.

The Central Committee member also hailed youths for heeding President Mnangagwa’s call to remain peaceful during election campaigns.

Mashonaland West provincial youth chairman Cde Vengai Musengi said the MDC Alliance House of Assembly members should respect Zimbabweans by acting honourably in Parliament.

“Our President is a listening President and it has been seen in the way he has opened up the democratic space,” he said.

“However, what we are now seeing the MDC Alliance doing in Parliament is not at all honourable.

“At that level we expect better from them.

“Parliament should be our source of pride. Even the traditional courts led by headmen are orderly. As youths we are saying let them be exemplary.”

Cde Musengi said Zimbabweans should be patient as Government addresses current economic challenges which in some instances are a result of sabotage.

Youths from all seven administrative districts in Mashonaland West province resolved that their representatives should also sit in district and provincial lands committees.
