It was all glitz and glamour when award-winning gospel musician Lawrence Gunda, popularly known as Worshipper Larry Gunda, recently launched his third solo album at Long Cheng Plaza in Harare.
The event attracted people from various walks of life, including fellow singers.
Worshipper Larry performed several songs from the new 12-track album titled “Yahweh We Praise Vol 2 [The Encounter]”, much to the delight of fans who spent the greater part of the evening on their feet.
Speaking after the album launch, Worshipper Larry said his mission is to touch lives through music.
“I have just released my third solo album. This launch was like no other, there were moments of celebration, joy and outstanding stage performances as we shared beautiful heavenly melodies,” he said.
Among the 12 tracks is “Hamuna Nhoroondo Yekukundikana”, which means God has no history of failure.
Worshipper Larry said the track encourages people to keep on believing in God no matter the circumstances.
Another interesting track on the album is “Kana Mwari Akurangarira”, which translates to when God remembers you.
“This track explains what happens to you when God starts to reward you for the good works you would have done for Him,” said Worshipper Larry.
“Story Changer” is another powerful track on the album, coming with a unique jazz fusion, explaining how Jesus Christ can change the lives of those who believe in Him.
The song, “Yahweh We Praise” is already on Hope Live FM Radio Top 10 in Kenya, while the track “Zvikasashamisa Haasi Mwari” is on Star FM’s Gospel Greats Top 20.
Worshipper Larry, who rose to fame as the leader of a four-member band, Gospel Power, first released his solo eight-track album, “Deeper”, in 2016, with the track “Anonzi Mutsvene” gaining popularity with gospel music lovers.
His second album, “Yahweh We Praise Vol 1” was released in 2020 at the height of Covid-19 and brought hope that the pandemic would be conquered.
On that album, the song “Mandishanyira” was voted number one on the end-of-year top 50 gospel hits on one of the country’s top radio stations.
Worshipper Larry won the Outstanding Invocation Song with his track “Taura Mweya” at the Maranatha Gospel Music Awards in Kenya last year when he beat 20 other artistes from various African countries.
