A non-governmental organisation, Institute for Young Women in Development (IYWD), has called on young women to familiarise themselves with the devolution agenda to find an operational framework beneficial to them.

Speaking during a workshop in Bindura recently, IYWD programmes co-leader Ms Gillian Chinzete said since women constituted the larger percentage of the population, a lot still needed to be done for young women to understand the devolution agenda and what the Constitution says about it.

“We met young women together with the local leadership where we discussed the issue of devolution,” she said. “We wanted them to understand what the Constitution says about it and what they as young women can benefit from it.

“We had the discussion today with stakeholders from different ministries and organisations so that we find a framework that will make devolution beneficial, especially to them. We also looked at the powers that will be devolved to the provincial councils,” she said.
