Government should focus on addressing the needs of women in the Second Republic as they play an important part in the development of the country, an official has said.

Speaking at a zanu-pf Manicaland Provincial Women’s League meeting in Mutare, the wing’s national secretary for administration, Cde Monica Mutsvangwa, said the election was no stroll in the park for Manicaland, but the most important thing was that the party sailed through and it was now time to focus on development.

“The empowerment of the Women’s League needs to be looked into as we move forward,” she said. “We have a President who knows and understands the importance of women in the nation, hence the future looks bright in terms of women empowerment.

“We managed to bring back a derailed train on to its tracks with President Emmerson Mnangagwa as the driver. We returned the revolution back on its tracks and we are now focusing on bringing prosperity and opportunity to everyone.”

Cde Mutsvangwa urged women to be the uniting force in society and map the way forward in terms of development, saying the empowerment of women was key to eradicating  poverty.

She thanked the provincial Women’s League members for their unwavering support and political stamina that got the party through the harmonised elections.
