WOMEN have an important role to play in ensuring the country’s pursuit of Vision 2030 of an upper middle income economy becomes successful, Zanu PF Secretary for Women Affairs Cde Mabel Chinomona has said.

Cde Chinomona, who is also Senate President, made the remarks in Mutare yesterday during the Zanu PF Women’s League Manicaland provincial launch of the Covid-19 face masks programme.

She said the successful sewing of face masks was ample proof that women can play an active role by contributing meaningfully towards Zimbabwe’s development agenda.

“The success of the development of our country requires hardworking women like you,” she said.

“We are in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic and as we continue fighting it together, we acknowledge this contribution that has seen you sewing these masks.

“Government is serious about empowering women and encourages such enterprises. We will continue supporting your industrious efforts.”

Cde Chinomona said the Second Republic was committed to uplifting the lives of women, and urged them to engage the Zimbabwe Women’s Microfinance Bank (ZWMB) and the Agricultural Marketing Authority to start income-generating farming projects, to ensure self-sufficiency as well as food security.

She urged women to emulate the good work being done by First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa through various initiatives and her sustained efforts to preserve the national moral fabric.

Women’s League Secretary for Administration Cde Monica Mutsvangwa, urged women to remain disciplined and uphold party principles.

“Discipline is the cornerstone of building a strong and united party. We have to shun the divisive elements that sow discord among us,” said Cde Mutsvangwa, who is also the Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services.

She added that it was important for members to put the party’s interests first and serve with humility, in whatever position.

Cde Mutsvangwa called on the women in Manicaland Province to mobilise support for the party to ensure President Mnangagwa gets the targeted five million votes in the 2023 harmonised elections.

The Second Republic, Cde Mutsvangwa said, has embarked on game-changing policies and programmes that were already bearing fruit barely three years after the last election.

She said it was such efficiency in delivering on election promises and the general desire to uplift the lives of citizens that see Zanu PF romping to victory in the forthcoming elections.

The Zanu PF Government has embarked on a number of infrastructural development projects targeting roads construction and repair, construction of clinics, schools and provision clean drinking water.

A reform of agricultural practices has also seen a jump in wheat and maize output from the past seasons.
