A 23-year-old woman was raped by two men in a bushy area in Bulawayo after she was offered a lift while a six-year-old girl was found hanging on a mango tree in Nkulumane, in unclear circumstances.

No arrests have been made in the case of the raped the woman and police are looking for the suspects who were travelling in an unregistered black Honda Fit.

National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident.

“We are investigating a case in which a Bulawayo woman was raped by two men in a car at an unknown bushy area on July 17, 2020 at about 8.30am. The victim had boarded an unregistered black Honda Fit with the two occupants in Pumula going to Amhlope High School.

“The driver diverted the route to a bushy area where they took turns to rape her. Investigations are in progress,” he said.

The incident comes after a 24-year-old woman was raped by an unknown man in a bushy area close to Cranborne Road in Harare after she had failed to get transport to Masvingo. The woman was raped after her assailant had offered to accommodate her for the night. He then raped her as they were walking to his “house” along Cranborne Road. A report was made to the police who are still investigating the case.

He said a manhunt for the assailant had since been launched.

Meanwhile, police are investigating a case in which a six-year-old girl was found hanging from a mango tree in Nkulumane, Bulawayo in unclear circumstances.

“The ZRP urges parents and guardians to monitor closely their children when playing outdoors to avoid loss of lives. This follows an incident of sudden death by hanging which occurred in Nkulumane, Bulawayo. A female juvenile aged six was found hanging from a mango tree,” Asst Comm Nyathi said.

He said the body was taken to a local hospital for post mortem as investigations continue.
