LONDON. — Manchester City winger Leroy Sane is believed to have missed out on Germany’s 23-man World Cup soccer squad due to his poor attitude.

The Sun reports that head coach Joachim Loew was left unimpressed by the 22-year-old’s attitude during a recent training camp. With the player also putting in a less than impressive performance in a World Cup warm-up game against Austria on Saturday.

Loew decided to leave Sane out of his final squad for the sake of team morale and at the risk of possibly upsetting other members of his squad.

A change in Sane’s attitude was noticed by the coaching staff in team meetings with the player coming off of winning the English Premiership with City and being named the PFA’s Young Player of the Year.

But scoring 14 goals and providing another 17 assists in all competitions was not enough to secure him a place in Germany’s squad for the upcoming World Cup in Russia.

According to The Sun, Sane’s behaviour around the German camp in recent weeks was the decisive factor as Loew put his faith in other players.

It is claimed a number of German players were “stunned” by Sane’s “big-time attitude” and would have been upset if he had made the squad.

Sane, who joined City from Schalke in 2016, struggled to make an impact in Germany’s friendly defeat to Austria on Saturday as the World Cup holders were beaten 2-1.

He will now spend his summer at home and at Manchester City, preparing for the 2018-19 season.

Speaking on Monday, Germany boss Loew suggested Sane was left out because Julian Brandt had impressed him in the build-up to the World Cup.

He said: “That was a very close decision between him and Julian Brandt, which was made in favour of Brandt. Draxler, Reus and Muller are set.

“Leroy is a huge talent. He will be back again from September. He had not arrived in international matches yet. — AFP.
