Why Africa should leverage on Russia, China tech, expertise for peace
Isdore Guvamombe-Reflections
EACH time I watch news channels, events in Gaza and of late, South Lebanon, I cringe. It is like a horror movie and yet it is a real life scenario.
How on earth do we, in our right minds, allow such killing of human beings like cockroaches? How on modern earth do we allow people to die like rats?
The biggest question: Are we still humane? The sad story is that behind all this are powerful nations that should know better.
We surely must stop somewhere. Enough is enough. How many more people should die before “We” stop this madness? By using “We” in my diction, I am using honorific, We for the US, the self-imposed Almighty of the world. The self-appointed and anointed deity of the world.
Events on the international scene- from Ukraine to Iran, Gaza and Lebanon, speak to nothing, but the need for a unipolar world where the West and the East balance in the power matrix.
Here is a US that has unilaterally imposed unjustified sanctions on countries even as small as Zimbabwe up to China, Cuba and Russia, among others, outside UN statutes.
Countries such as Russia and China should come in handy in increasing their stranglehold in the world to checkmate the US and make the world safe. The time to stop abuse of power is now and only Russia has the capacity, at the moment.
We are no longer safe and at this stage. But leaders in Africa and the Global South should give Russia and China such space in order to facilitate its grand participation in development, peace and stability.
Leaders in the Global South and in the entire Africa must quickly embrace Russia and help its leader Vladimir Putin, gain more traction in their counties against some warmongering, repressive and sanctions-wielding regime change agents in the West and the US.
The world must be safe for all and sundry. One country should not be allowed to dictate the pace and peace in the world.
What is happening in these places, the killing of people like rats can happen in any part of the world unless the US and its allies in the West are checkmated. A very simple analysis (which does not require knowledge political science) shows dirty US hands, shows US hands dripping in blood and pretending to be saints behind the scenes.
Israel is not Israel without the powerful backing of the US. In fact, Israel is a province of the US.
Russia is a fair player, a very reasonable and progressive thinking Federation that, despite being the biggest country by land size, is the biggest benevolent country to the poor developing world. Russia has been very generous to Africa and the world.
Russia has the necessary technology to help the Global South in general and Africa in particular, solve their myriad of problems, from food security to manufacturing, ICT, mining, value addition, medical care and little everything else.
The Russian package comes without coercion, without a sanctions regime, without plunder and political interference, nicely wrapped as democracy like the US does.
Russia produces more than enough agriculture inputs for Africa’s consumption and Russia produces more grain and its contribution to world is well tabulated in the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), although the US and the West have tried to downplay its contribution.
Russia is technologically-advanced in all mining activities and African countries can benefit from its expertise and technological advancement or the betterment of its people.
Russia can make Africa and the Global South achieve or derive maximum benefits from mining activities, through beneficiation and value addition.
Combating climate change is very critical for Africa and technology in irrigation and general farming, harvesting and post-harvest handling is easily available from Moscow.
At this stage in world politics, the Global South and Africa need Russia more than ever before and the Middle East, too can benefit from Russia is political, socio and economic muscle.
The US onslaught does not end with Lebanon and Palestine.
Where US has participated through an array of NGOs and Civil Society Organisation in fighting governments that do not believe in its world trajectory, Russia has sought win-win, development projects.
The US under the Joe Biden administration has been very corrupt, but Russia has taken even more serious stance against corruption.
The US administration has been pushing for same sex marriages and has sought to impose sanctions on African countries that have refused to accept homosexuality, but Russia has stood steadfast against same sex marriages. It is taboo in Moscow as it is in Africa.
While the US has sought to superimpose itself as a big brother, Russia has increased its footprints in Africa through craft and professionally done deals. Therefore, Africa and the Global South stand to benefit more from Russia’s persona and development trajectory than from US.
Russia is the future of a world free of conflicts and centred on development and win-win deals.
Russia is the future in respecting sovereignty and territorial integrity of other countries. Russia is the future in upholding independence of smaller nations.
The US big brother mentality must be checkmated.
The US abuse of sanctions, political muscle and military mighty must be a thing of the past.
The Russia-Africa Summit proved Moscow’s worthy cause. There was something for someone, including life-changing donations.
Therefore, this is the time for Africa and all developing countries to give Russia a plinth to help them achieve their goals.
