When lockdown fails to kill fashion A man wearing loungewear

Happy New Year!

I am sure the past year has not been easy because of the global pandemic which has scuttled many plans, business and lifestyle.

Covid-19 is real and no laughing matter. We can all see how it has taken many lives.

We are still living through a period that is unlike any other — let us call it an new normal —  so make sure you stay at home if you are not an essential service worker, always mask up-rather do not leave it behind, sanitise — if possible move around with a pocket sanitiser and always observe social distancing.

That is to be safe.

The global coronavirus pandemic has dramatically shifted the way in which we go about our day-to-day lives, and there is little doubt that, going forward, at least parts of our existence are going to change for ever.

Fashion should not die because of lockdown, this is the time you should be creative.

I agree that when it comes to the fashion industry and, more specifically, the way we, as consumers, shop and choose what we pull out of our wardrobes each morning, the experience of living through a lockdown could very well alter our perspective on dressing for the foreseeable future.

After-all some find comfort in lounge wear at home and this means that it is going to stretch for long since our lockdown is 30-day period.

Those in the dark, loungewear is something you can wear around home, casual and not even matching.

In some countries, the restriction of lockdown is tense and has even stretched to months but that should not stop dressing up otherwise the clothes will end up too small.

Remember, while at home you will be eating a lot if you are not using the opportunity to exercise.

The questions on everyone’s lips is will we go to the other extreme and dress up more than we ever have before? Will our priorities shift, giving way to changes in the industry that were already in motion and desperately needed?

As the way we live our lives adjusts to a new normal, how will our wardrobes fare? Well for a start, life still goes on but we can’t dump the industry because of the global pandemic.

Look at how United States hosted its awards virtually. They were all dressed up, so why not take the route?

In fact, the National Arts and Merit Awards (NAMAs) and the Zimbabwe Music Awards (ZIMA) are just around the corner. So why not start preparing?

Dress up or rather lose it.

Fashion is not stopping.

Again not much has been particularly certain in past year but there’s one thing we have been sure of all along that is 2020 was to be the year that changed the way we dress forever.

It changed our approach to the brands we shop from even the stylist and designers we work with.

“The way in which people interact with brands and shop for fashion is changing fast,” explains Chris Morton, the founder and chief executive of global-fashion search engine Lyst.

“The Covid-19 crisis is accelerating shifts that were already happening in our industry, and catalysing further changes.”

So what then do we wear?

I know there are some obvious shifts on dressing since most people are now home bound. Some of the clothes that you can be comfortable wearing include luxury loungewear, tracksuits and active-wear and these are your day to day t-shirts pyjamas kind like attire that you have.

You do not need to go to the shop to look for them rather maximise what you have.

For ladies this is the time to let your face enjoy the freshness too, by going makeup free and making your hair breathe.

Remember it is less visitors or no visitors at all so there is no worry on how you should be looking except that bathing is essential make sure you bath well since you now have the time compared while you were rushing to work.

To the gentlemen, I know the barbershops are closed for now but that doesn’t mean you let your beard grow without taking care of it.

Always wash with shampoo and this is the time you have your home gym and use those online skills.
