What men can do, women can do better Dr Muradzikwa

Manica Post, 16 December 2005

IF there is any one male chauvinist who still thinks the bedroom is the right place for women, then he should go back to the drawing board.

Women have now invaded every sector of the business world with much success. They have their hands deep in every business pie of the economy, even in the once perceived male-dominated business sectors. Women have scaled the echelons of business, thanks to their shrewd strategies, which make them see opportunities where many men can only see challenges and problems.

Meet such one great woman, Mrs Grace Muradzikwa who is an archetype of women’s success. Today, she is the managing director of NicozDiamond, a formidable company in the insurance industry. Mrs Muradzikwa has shown that if men can do it, then women can do it better. Her hard work has not gone unnoticed, with the Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce awarding her this year’s Business Woman of the Year Award.

The award was presented at a colourful annual gala hosted by the ZNCC in honour of the contribution she has made as a business leader in Zimbabwe.

The prestigious award also recognises her contribution in establishing NicozDiamond as the largest short-term insurer in Zimbabwe, her international strategy to expand operations across continental Africa and also her ability to succeed in these challenging times.

“With far reaching experience in the insurance industry, I have successfully taken the company to greater heights and consistently demonstrate sound business judgement, decisiveness and well developed strategic and analytical skills. This has enabled NicozDiamond to position itself as the premier provider of short term insurance products in Zimbabwe,” Mrs Muradzikwa said.

While the international markets have been a no-go area for business people, Mrs Muradzikwa has ventured into the lucrative outside markets with great success.

“I have spearheaded expansion into international markets and NicozDiamond currently has its presence felt in Malawi and Uganda,” she said.

LESSONS FOR TODAY

The advent of Independence meant that women were no longer confined to a few professions like teaching, nursing and secretarial.

The sky became the limit, and when they were dared to shatter the glass ceiling, they did so spectacularly.

Today, women are found in every profession, based on merit and they are high achievers.

A number of captains of industry are women, and their footprint is unmistakeable. They have claimed their space and have become the daring pioneers in mainstreaming gender in the workplace.
