Lawsuits and threats will not stop the Zanu-PF Youth League from naming and shaming corrupt individuals, youth commissar Cde Godfrey Tsenengamu has said.

Addressing hundreds of party supporters at St Barnabas Business Centre in Wedza South constituency over the weekend, Cde Tsenengamu said they will not be stopped by cheap threats.

“We will not be stopped by threats or lawsuits because we want President Emmerson Mnangagwa to achieve his vision to have a corruption-free country,” he said.

He hailed Wedza South MP Cde Tino Machakaire, who was named among corrupt officials, for providing evidence to clear his name.

Cde Machakaire is said to have recently availed his personal and company bank accounts to the Youth League for scrutiny.

“He did the right thing by coming to prove to us that he was not involved in corrupt activities,” said Cde Tsenengamu. “That is what we want; people should come and clear their names, not to threaten us or slap us with lawsuits. That shows they are hiding something.”

Cde Tsenengamu urged people to be patient with President Mnangagwa’s policies, saying though they were painful, they would lead to stability.

“We have to be very patient with President Mnangagwa’s policies because they are taking the country in the right direction,” he said. “He will not get in shops to control prices, but he is doing all his best to make sure everything is in its rightful place.”

Speaking at the same occasion, Cde Machakaire said he would not focus on the allegations, but on issues affecting his constituency.

“We don’t want corruption at all, but we are requesting the Youth League not to use the crusade to extort money,” he said.

He said he was focusing on fighting hunger and exorbitant pricing in his constituency. “I will not have much focus on the allegations because our people are hungry,” he said. “There is a drought in Hwedza, our ordinary people cannot afford these exorbitant prices charged here. I have since approached relevant authorities to deal with such issues.”

Cde Kelvin Mutsvairo, the Youth League chairman for Mashonaland East, said Cde Machakaire had done the right thing to clear his name.

Chief Ruzane thanked the Youth League for coming to the area to clarify the issue.
