The Economic Empowerment Group will continue empowering Zimbabweans, both local and in the Diaspora, in line with President Mnangagwa’s policy of leaving no one and no place behind.

In a statement, EEG president Mr Mike Chimombe said the group had engaged the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development to amplify the importance of the National Development Strategy 1 and the Vision 2030 of an upper middle income society.

“The newly-formed and youth-led Economic Empowerment Group has sprung to the empowerment platform with a big bang,” said Mr Chimombe.

“In less than a year, the organisation has been able to travel the length and breadth of the country, setting up solid structures and rousing the empowerment spirit in Zimbabweans. We have also strong chapters in the diaspora as we move with President Mnangagwa’s mantra, “leaving no place and no one behind.” EEG had engaged youths on anti-drugs and substance abuse in all provinces. EEG has also engaged the EmpowerBank and the Women’s Bank, so that they supported youths and women with funds to venture into business or boost their businesses.

“We have been engaging youths on opportunities that the New Dispensation is offering so that they can exploit these. We have engaged all Ministers of State and Provincial Affairs to enable our members to be involved in devolution issues and exploit the opportunities,” said Mr Chimombe.

EEG had negotiated with responsible authorities so that youths and women could get land and embark on businesses.

“We have also engaged big mines for tributes for our youths and women. There are positives in that regard.

“As you are aware, the EEG strongly supports President Mnangagwa and the party, Zanu PF, as these are the architects of empowerment and our DNA is wired in their fabric,” said Mr Chimombe. In that regard, EEG has been drumming up support for President Mnangagwa ahead of the 2023 harmonised elections.

Some EEG members were elected into the Zanu PF Central Committee, including Mr Chimombe himself who represents Mashonaland West, EEG vice president Cde Munyaradzi Kashambe from Mashonaland East, Harare Provincial chairperson Cde Memory Manhiyo, Cde Mabutho Moyo from Bulawayo Province and Cde Terence Mukupe from Mashonaland West.

“This is a clear testimony to the fact that we are seriously working to mobilise for the re-election of the President and party, Zanu PF.

“Going into 2023, our work would be to sell President Mnangagwa’s excellent policies as we aspire to have the Empowerment Commander back on the national steering wheel of the country,” said Mr Chimombe.

The EEG will be following up with mining companies that had promised to empower youths, and they will also engage more banks to provide funds for their members.

Mr Chimombe said they want a procurement stake for youths in all municipalities, Government ministries, parastatals and major mines. “We have the zeal and energy to deliver. EEG is a force to reckon with,” he said.
