TWO roads that were recently constructed in Dzivarasekwa and Warren Park were today reopened to traffic.
The rehabilitation of roads in Harare recently moved to high-density suburbs in line with the Government’s mantra of leaving no one and no place behind.
The road in Dzivarasekwa was opened to traffic from Sanganai Inn to an area known as Magetsi near Harare-Bulawayo Road while in Warren Park the road known as 4th Avenue stretches from the intersection of Harare-Bulawayo Road for about 3,4km.
The scope of work for the two road projects undertaken by ZADA Construction Company and Syvern Contracting included reconstruction and overlaying.
Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister Felix Mhona, who was accompanied by his permanent secretary Engineer Joy Makumbe, Harare Mayor Councilor Jacob Mafume, Zimbabwe National Road Administration board chairperson Dr George Manyaya and other government officials toured the roads before they were opened to traffic.
In an interview this week, Minister Mhona said they have a program of action, not only in the CBD but also in the locations where they were seized with rehabilitation.
“In terms of the post-program that we have in the ministry, we are saying every province has got an issue with roads,” he said.
“So in each province, we are saying to the provincial road engineer, let us sit together, and I am happy that what you have seen here, we have been working closely with Zinara every week to say what is it that we can earmark towards road rehabilitation program, and we will continue in that regard.”
Minister Mhona assured the nation that they will attend to every road countrywide. Zinara board chairperson Dr Manyaya said with the direction and guidance of Minister Mhona, they had come up with innovative funding mechanisms whereby every week they have been disbursing funds to road authorities not only for the SADC roads projects.
“I want to take this opportunity to assure all Zimbabweans that as Zinara and in collaboration with the fiscus we have funding to continue doing the road rehabilitation programme and it is a continuous process which we are doing across the country and it will continue to be done like that. The funds are there and will make sure that we will continue providing them,” he said.
