The Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association (ZNLWVA) leadership here has condemned the act of terrorism at White City Stadium in Bulawayo, which left two people dead and several others, including senior Government officials, injured, some of them seriously.

In a statement, ZNLWVA provincial chairman Cde Tendeukai Chinooneka said the war veterans were joining the nation in condemning the incident.

“ZNLWVA-Masvingo chapter hereby join the peace-loving nation of Zimbabwe, in solidarity with His Excellency Cde Mnangagwa in preaching a message of peace,” said Cde Chinooneka.

“As an association, we strongly condemn the terrorist hand behind the unfortunate incident at the White City Stadium, where hordes of innocent people were wounded, life was lost and the life of the Head of State and Government was equally threatened.

“As an association which cherishes peace of all people of Zimbabwe, we were not only horrified by the dastardly act of sadism and malevolence, but equally astounded by the blatant scorn at the tranquil and serene pre-election campaign trail where all political parties have been given room to exercise their democratic rights,” he said.

Cde Chinooneka said the cowardly act was repulsive and loathsome as it was against the cherished ethos of Ubuntu or Unhu.

He also implored the nation to be patient and allow the responsible authorities to discharge their duties for justice to take its course.

“The law enforcement agents should do all this is within their legal framework to ensure that the culprits are brought to book.

“To those who are still in hospital, we pray that the Almighty Lord could shower His mercies and Grace for a speedy recovery.

“As the late Cde John Landa Nkomo always said, peace begins with you, peace begins with me, peace begins with all of us , so let us join hands as a nation to continue working towards the continuous reconstruction of peace .”

“As His Excellency has initiated, we should not seek retaliation or vengeance at all, but should preach love, forgiveness and tolerance.

“That way, we can build a formidable nation characterised by enduring peace, which in essence, is the integral calculus in the matrix that begets socio-economic development,” he said.

He said ZNLWVA -Masvingo chapter was strongly behind the national cause for sustainable socio-economic transformation premised on peace.

“This is the ethos of the new political order under a servant-leader, a man of great humility and unparalleled commitment to the reconstruction of the beautiful land of Zimbabwe, His Excellency Cde Mnangagwa.”
