The US$200 000 Dombwe Bridge across the Zhovoringo River in Shurugwi District has been commissioned by Midlands Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Owen Ncube.
The 91m bridge, built by Government through the Rural Infrastructure Development Agency (RIDA) as part of the emergency road rehabilitation programme, will help improve connectivity with other districts and provide a vital link for communities from Dombwe to the Grain Marketing Board, Zvarota Clinic, Shurugwi Town, Lalapanzi and Mvuma.
Addressing villagers, motorists and Government officials, Minister Ncube said the perennial problem of travelling long distances to access health and education facilities, markets and other service centres such as the GMB has been permanently resolved by the Second Republic following the completion of Dombwe Bridge.
“The bridge expands the inventory of the Second Republic’s ever-increasing road infrastructure project including Phoenix Bridge in Mberengwa, Manhize in Chirumanzu, Chemusonde in Gokwe South, Sabakwenyane in Vungu and Gunguhwe in Gokwe North,” he said.
“I would also like to credit village heads and the local councillor for mobilising community members to provide labour during the construction of the bridge. I would like to applaud the Rural Infrastructure Development Agency for a job well done.”
Minister Ncube said the completion of the project is a testament to the dedication and tireless efforts of the Second Republic to enhance the well-being of rural communities.
“This confirms the commitment and hard work of the Second Republic to improve the quality of lives of our rural communities.
“I wish to thank the leadership and all members of the community for working with RIDA towards ensuring the successful implementation of this project.”
Under the emergency road programme, Midlands through RIDA, has completed the construction of eight other bridges while seven others are at advanced stages as the Second Republic continues to implement the inclusive development agenda.
RIDA is now working on four more bridges in Mberengwa and Gokwe North and South, all of which are nearing completion.
