Police in Marondera have arrested two suspects in connection with a spate of unlawful entries in Marondera. 

It is reported that on September 22 2021, Detectives from Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Marondera received a tip off from members of the public that Thulani Gerald Moyo (42) of Unit N Chitungwiza and Liberty Tembo of Unit A Chitungwiza had recently committed a case of unlawful entry in Paradise Marondera. 

Acting on this information the detectives teamed up and waylaid the suspects along the Harare-Mutare highway and other roads. 

The suspects were using a Honda Fit to transport the stolen property. It is alleged that the suspects at one point evaded the police check point at 71 km peg and used the dusty Shepperton Road where they were intercepted by police officers who were deployed there and were apprehended. 

Deputy spokesperson for police Mashonaland East Assistant Inspector Misheck Denhere yesterday confirmed the arrest.

“Searches were made as well as interviews leading to the recovery of a four-plate electric stove, a double-door KIC fridge, 2 x 10kg gas tanks, various non-stick pots, various plates, groceries, 20kg beef, silver trays, water buckets, water heater bucket, clothes and towels.

“Some of the stolen property including a four-plate black electrical stove was recovered from where it was hid awaiting to be collected on the second trip. The total value stolen is $141 000 and all was recovered.

“Thulani Gerald Moyo is assisting police to clear six other unlawful cases in which he is being implicated,” he said.

He thanked members of the public for providing police with information leading to the suspects’ arrests. 

“We would like to thank members of the community for supplying us with this information which led to the arrest of the suspects and recovery of property. 

“This shows that members of the public and police are now joining hands in fighting crime within their localities. 

“Police would also want to encourage people to make sure that their property is secured and to never leave their premises unattended. They should also report such cases to police in time for quick reaction.
