Two Chitungwiza men allegedly lured a 17-year-old mentally challenged girl from an all-night prayer church service on the pretext they were taking her home and later took turns to rape her.

The two, aged 20 and 35, have since appeared before Chitungwiza resident magistrate Mrs Renika Dzikiti facing rape charges. Mrs Dzikiti remanded them in custody to February 22.

Prosecutor Mr Tatenda Mukatera alleged that on January 23 at around 2am, the girl was at an all-night prayer service in Zengeza 3 when the 20-year-old took her home. It is alleged that on the way, he started proposing love to her, but she turned him down.

The court heard that the man allegedly enticed her to his house where on arrival he started caressing her and later raped her.

He then accompanied her home and on the way, they allegedly met the 35-year-old.

It is further alleged that the 35-year-old greeted the girl and joined them going to her house.

Upon arrival, the first man left her with the older man at the gate while she wrestled with him to set herself free. But he allegedly lifted the girl and took her into her parents’ toilet situated at the back of the house and there raped her.

When she tried to scream, the man allegedly muffled her using his hand.

The man ran out of luck after their noise attracted the attention of the girl’s brother who went to investigate. Upon realising that someone had opened the door, the man bolted from the scene, but was identified by the girl’s brother.
