Two killed in hit-and-run accidents Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko

TWO pedestrians were killed in separate hit-and-run road traffic accidents that occurred along the Kwekwe – Gokwe and Matobo Roads on Sunday.

Midlands provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the accidents.

“The deceased in the first incident was identified as Freddy Mancala (58) of Magiya Village under Chief Malisa, Zhombe. He was hit by a motor vehicle along the Kwekwe – Gokwe Road. The motor vehicle did not stop. He was discovered by Kwekwe traffic police who were on patrol along the highway,” said Inspector Mahoko.

On the same day, an unidentified man died in a hit-and-run accident which occurred along the Matobo – Gweru Road around 4:50am.

Inspector Mahoko said a passerby discovered the body lying at the edge of the road and reported to the police.

“The police found the body with head injuries and multiple fractures on both hands.  The man is suspected to have been hit by a speeding motorist who did not stop after the accident,” he said.

Inspector Mahoko appealed to members of the public who might have information that could lead to the identification of the drivers who were involved in the two accidents to approach any nearest police station
“We also appeal for those missing a male relative to approach Gweru traffic and assist in the identification,” he said
