Two children burnt to death, another one seriously injured

Two children aged four years and 18 months were burnt to death while another juvenile sustained serious burns after a grass-thatched bathroom caught fire yesterday in Chimanimani.The incident occurred after one of the children lit fire which razed the bathroom to ashes.

National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the victims had been left playing by their grandmother who had gone to the garden.

“The ZRP confirms a fire incident in which two female juveniles aged four and one-year-six months died while another female juvenile aged three sustained burns after one of the victims lit fire which razed a grass-thatched bathroom to ashes at Chikona Village, Chimanimani on November 6, 2023.
“The victims had been left playing by their grandmother who had gone to the garden. The bodies of the victims were taken to Mutambara Mission Hospital for post mortem whilst the injured victim is admitted at Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital,” he said.

Meanwhile, police in Harare are investigating a case of murder in which Malvern Paul (44) died after being attacked with bricks and empty beer bottles by Malvern Batsirai (34) and six other suspects at Gail’s Court, near the intersection of 8th Street and Samora Machel Avenue on Sunday.

The victim had tried to refrain Batsirai from assaulting his girlfriend when the incident occurred.

Police have since arrested him in connection with the case.

Six other suspects identified as Gaza Cartel, Dhadza and Tsomutsomu are still on the run.
