Tuku’s annual Nyanga concert beckons Oliver Mtukudzi

It is that time of the year again when Oliver Mtukudzi makes a trip to the Eastern Highlands for his annual concert at Montclair Hotel and Casino.

Every winter, Tuku makes a date with tourists and golfers that visit Nyanga for the annual golf tournament organised by the hotel. The musician performs at the after-party of the tournament and the event has become an exceptional leisure package.

This year, the event takes place on June 23 and Tuku will share the stage with Alexio Kawara and Zi-Dancehall Empire.

Tuku’s Nyanga concert has become popular with executives and corporates that also take advantage of the event to exhibit their products.

The musician is passionate about the event as evidenced by one of his previous editions when he invited his late South African friend and legendary musician Hugh Masekela to take part at the concert.

The day of the event will be a big one with golf starting around 10am. Golfers from many parts of the country have participated in the tournament in previous years.

This year, well-known golfer Ryan Cairns is expected to be one of the players on the course. Cairns is a professional golfer who has won several trophies and has participated in international tournaments.

Registration for the golf tournament is already underway and tickets for the show are also on sale in at the hotel’s offices in Harare and at the hotel Nyanga.

Montclair Sales and Marketing manager Busisiwe Tutani said response to this year’s event is great.

“People started making enquiries about the golf tournament and the show well before we advertised. The event is growing each year. It seems everyone who comes for this event never wants to miss the next edition,” said Tutani.

“We have a special package for people that come for the tournament and the show. It is always a good time to give back to our guests. We are happy that we will have a professional golfer taking part in the tournament. It shows that the tournament is attracting interest from renowned golfers and it should also inspire other players to come in.”

Speaking about the concert, Tutani said they are looking forward to a memorable event.

“The concert will cap festivities of the day. It has always been a good way of celebrating and Tuku never disappoints. He delivers the best every time he stages the concert. He has shown that he has passion for this event. His previous editions have been exceptional. He surprised us when he brought Hugh Masekela the other time.

“He has staged the event with the likes of Roki, Ammara Brown and Alexio Kawara. Zi-Dancehall Empire has been part of our various events and we are pleased to have them at the concert. They are coming in as a result of our partnership with ZiFM Stereo.”

Alexio returns to the concert after a splendid performance last year and he is likely to take his act a notch higher to impress and win hearts to get another slot at the next edition.
