Tuku Music in court over tax evasion Samantha Mtukudzi

Senior Court Reporter

TUKU Music and Promotions (Pvt) Limited, owned by the late music icon Oliver Mtukudzi, was yesterday summoned to appear at the Harare Magistrates Court on allegations of failing to submit income tax returns and Value Added Tax (VAT) to the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA).

The music label, which was being jointly charged with Mtukudzi’s daughter and public relations manager, Samantha Mtukudzi, appeared before magistrate Mrs Tafadzwa Miti on two counts of violating the Income Tax Act.

Samantha and her late father’s company were not formally placed on remand.

This was after the court noted that Samantha was being jointly charged with Tuku Music and Promotions instead of her appearing as a company’s representative.

Mrs Miti ordered the State to amend its papers and charge the company only.

The State led by Mrs Polite Chikiwa agreed and requested that the matter be heard on Friday after amending its charge sheets.

Tuku Music and Promotions allegedly failed to submit income tax returns and Value Added Tax between June last year and January this year.
