TWO truck drivers have been arrested on allegations of smuggling mbanje and bales of second hand clothes in separate incidents in Beitbridge and Masvingo with police also intensifying investigations in a case in which two local companies are facing fraud charges involving 147 000 litres of petrol.

National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said on December 4, police in Beitbridge arrested Blessed Mangezi aged 31, a truck driver after he was found in possession of a plastic paper bag with 1,065kgs of dagga.

Police in Masvingo also intercepted an unregistered Scania truck with 71 bales of second hand clothes worth $745 500 at Amnias Business Centre, along the Masvingo-Mutare Road.

This comes after two local companies are facing fraud charges after they allegedly brought into the country, three trucks loaded with nearly 147 000 litres of petrol alleging that it was destined for Zambia before offloading the commodity in the country.

After offloading the fuel, the trucks were driven to Chirundu where the drivers tried to cross into the neighbouring country.

Their luck ran out when they were intercepted by security agents.
