THREE travel agency senior employees allegedly pocketed more than $180 000 after selling air tickets to various individuals in and around the city in separate incidents.

One of the suspects, Wisdom Zhou (41) of Waterfalls, who was employed as a senior travel consultant by Haven Travel and Tours (Pvt) Ltd, has since been arrested while the other two are still at large.

The offences were committed between April 2015 and January this year.

Zhou was arrested last Thursday on allegations of defrauding the travel agent of $39 561,61.

He appeared before Harare magistrate Ms Vongai Muchuchuti on Saturday and was remanded to April 11 on $200 bail.

It is alleged that Zhou pocketed the money after selling the air tickets to clients and converted the money into his own use on various occasions.

According to a report made to the police, there were a number of air tickets that were issued by Zhou and the travel agent discovered that there was no proof in receipt books, invoices and bank statements.

After committing the offences, Zhou is believed to have left the company sometime in January to start his own travel agency.

He is reported to have also erased most of the data and transactions he made on his personal computer.

Investigations carried out by Mushlink Consultancy also revealed that a number of clients that were served by Zhou were issued with air tickets and he would pocket part of the money.

Police have since launched a manhunt for the other two suspects who are still at large. One of the suspects is believed to have fled to South Africa, while the whereabouts of the other suspect is still not known.
