Mutare City Rovers gaffer Joseph Takaringofa’s woes continue to mount after suffering a 2-1 defeat to Triangle on his 44th birthday at Vengere yesterday. The match started on a low note with no team making goal threatening moves. The major talking point was in the 32nd minute when referee Norman Matemera turned down a penalty appeal from Mutare City when Triangle defender Kudzanai Chigundu appeared to impede on Evans Chikwaikwai who was charging towards goal.

In the second half Triangle were the more determined side as they piled pressure on City in search of an opener. They almost broke the deadlock in the 47th minute when Phineas Bhamusi hit the cross bar. Triangle’s pressure was finally rewarded in the 52nd minute after striker Collin Duhwa struck from outside the box. Mutare City responded eight minutes later when Brian Chinhoyi struck a beautiful goal outside the box.

But as has become for City, holding on to a win or a draw proved difficult once again and nine minutes later Lameck Nhamo capitalised on poor defending by the hosts to grab the winner.

The Rovers defeat means the poorly administered side is sinking deeper in relegation waters.

Takaringofa blamed his players for exhibiting the wrong attitude.

“It’s a very disappointing result for us. I think the attitude of my players was not right. They keep on giving excuses for the poor performances. Some of the mistakes they were making are so silly.

Triangle coach Taurai Mangwiro said he was a relieved man to collect maximum points after two consecutive defeats.
